Due to its unique location on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, Venice has been an important commercial city for centuries. Governed by the doges, the historic rulers of Venice, it became one of the wealthiest republics in Europe, and its buildings were constructed representing many different architectural styles.
The splendor of its appearance earned Venice the name La Serenissima, meaning the most serene of all the republics. Venice comprises over a hundred small islands that are scattered across a large lagoon. The main island was built around majestic St. Mark’s Square.
First, you’ll go on a boat trip on the lagoon to see the various islands and then you’ll take a 2-hour guided walking tour to visit the most important sights of the city, such as St. Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.
After the lunch break, you’ll have some free time to explore the city by yourself. Visit museums or stop to buy some souvenirs or gifts before your return trip to Milan.
